When you hear the word workers' union, many employees may think of a fighter wearing a red headband and fighting. It may be because authoritarian government and conservative media in the past have promoted prejudice and hatred against workers and unions.
However, the right of workers to gather and establish a trade union (the right to organize), negotiate with the company on working conditions and welfare (the right to collective bargaining), and sometimes show off the power of the union during the negotiation process (the right to collective action) is a right guaranteed by the Constitution.

The LMC is mandatorily established at workplaces with 30 or more employees in accordance with the “Worker Participation and Cooperation Promotion Act,” and its main purpose is to discuss related issues through regular meetings between employee representatives and company representatives every three months. Workers' representatives are elected by workers, but if there is a majority trade union, the labor union is supposed to commission it.
In accordance with the “Labor Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act,” workers can freely organize or join a labor union. Unions can do more than works councils through the right to organize, collective bargaining, and collective action. For example, you can negotiate wages with the company every year, which the works council cannot, and protect employees during restructuring. In addition, matters such as job security, discipline, and welfare concluded through collective agreements take precedence over the company's employment rules.
